ICSI Treatment in Ashok Vihar, Gurgaon

  • Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is an assisted reproductive technique. It involves injecting sperm directly into the mature egg's cytoplasm. It is often done with IVF to improve the chances of fertilization.
  • ICSI is an advanced treatment for couples with severe male infertility. It pushes the sperm to attach to the egg for fertilization, which the sperm cannot do independently.

Indications for ICSI Treatment:

ICSI helps in overcoming infertility problems when:

  • The male companion delivers low sperms to do artificial insemination procedures like IUI or IVF.
  • The sperm has low motility or difficulties in penetrating the egg.
  • The sperm has an unusual shape, particularly at the head or tail part.
  • The blockage in the male reproductive organs may restrict the entry of the sperm.
  • The eggs remain unfertilized through IVF, although the sperm is normal.
  • In vitro matured or previously frozen eggs are used.

How much is the cost of ICSI treatment in Gurgaon?

  • The cost of ICSI treatment is a bit expensive compared to IVF. But the results of the ICSI process are more successful than IVF treatment. The ICSI cost can differ based on the doctor's experience, hospital, and its location.
  • However, no matter which city you prefer to undergo the treatment in, the price is generally only a fraction of the cost charged in other developed countries. The treatment cost also depends on various factors such as the type of infertility treated, the woman's age, or need for additional treatments.

Steps of ICSI Treatment:

Step 1: Egg retrieval

After the suppression of the hormones, the initiation of ovarian stimulation takes place for retrieving the eggs. The technician inserts a microneedle into the vagina to the ovaries then into the egg follicles under suction to obtain the eggs.

Next, the embryologist treats the eggs with an enzymatic liquid to discharge the egg's surface impurities. It is the method of hazing, and it helps choose only genetically mature eggs.

Step 2: Sperm retrieval & preparation

In the ICSI technique, the most common method of sperm retrieval is, the male partner can directly give their semen sample. Another way of sperm collection is Testicular Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (TESA) method. It involves the insertion of microneedle in the testicle and extracting the sperms. The aspirated sperms are treated with various solutions. Thus, it helps in the selection of only mature sperms.

Step 3: Sperm selection

In IVF, the embryologist picks nearly 100,000 high-quality sperms and incubate them with mature eggs. In ICSI, the embryologist chooses a single, motile and normal-shaped sperm with good DNA integrity to insert into a mature egg.

Step 4: Sperm injection

With an injecting pipette, the technician chooses a sperm cell and inserts it directly into the egg. The sperm is picked first from the tail to ensure that the head penetrates the egg. A slight suction is applied to break the egg membrane gently. Now the sperm discharges through the pipette and microinjects into the egg. It helps the sperm to enter the egg. After 40 to 70 hours, the egg is examined frequently under a microscope for signs of fertilization.

Step 5: Embryo transfer

The fertilization occurs after the microinjection of sperm into the egg. Further, the fertilized egg turns into a mature embryo in 4 to 6 days. The embryo reaches the blastocyst stage on the fifth day. At this phase, the embryo is capable of attaching to the uterus. The embryologist inserts the resulting developed embryo with a cluster of six to eight cells into the uterus.

What happens after the ICSI treatment?

After two weeks of embryo transfer, the would-be mother has to do a pregnancy test by a urinary pregnancy test kit. Next, you have to tell the test result to your gynaecologist or fertility clinic. The test result will decide the future progress of your IVF treatment.

Advantages of ICSI Treatment:

ICSI can be effective for males who have fewer sperms in the ejaculate.

ICSI also improves the chances of fertilization during IVF treatment.

It efficiently works in conditions when the sperm is unable to penetrate the egg membrane.

ICSI is an excellent choice for men who have undergone a vasectomy.

Disadvantages of ICSI Treatment:

Risk of damage or harm to the eggs or embryos during the procedure.

Rare risk of genetic disorders in the child due to fertilization of low-quality sperm.

Risk of multiple births that may cause conditions like diabetes, blood pressure, or premature labour.
